Despite all the drama surrounding Darryn Peterson right now, the Kansas freshman guard is still considered the favorite to be picked No. 1 this year, followed by BYU’s AJ Dybantsa. However, with that drama surrounding Peterson and Dybantsa putting up the numbers but not enough to break into the Top 10, a certain other freshman is also rising in the rankings, and that is their Class of 2025 batchmate Cam Boozer.
The Duke power forward has been doing the things Peterson and Dybantsa had not been doing, and that is showing up to games consistently and also leading a winning team. He led the Blue Devils in that thrilling win over Michigan, and analysts agree that his winning mentality and record could be something teams will be looking for.
“Cam Boozer is all about winning and that should matter to NBA teams,” said Terence Oglesby the The Field Of 68: After Dark podcast
Michigan was supposed to be at the top of the rankings for the AP Top 25, but No. 3 Duke just handed them a rare loss, and it was thanks to Cam Boozer, 68-63. He had yet another double-double performance with 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks that night, with the big power forward making a case for himself to be the No. 1 pick for 2026.
Cam Boozer is no stranger to winning, as last year, he and his brother, Cayden, led the Columbus Explorers to a national title with a stellar run to finish their high school career as the best in the country. The Boozer Twins also held the Nike EYBL Peach Jam titles thrice, winning it in all three years.
Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer All Praises for Cam Boozer After Win vs. No. 1 Michigan
Boozer was clutch against Michigan, and in a very close game, that is often what NBA teams may be looking for, that ability to rise up to the challenge while facing immense pressure. This has led Duke head coach Jon Scheyer to rain praises on his freshman power forward.
“It’s helped a lot. I just think he’s wired for it. He lives it. He absolutely is, he’s incredibly prepared going to the games of understanding the different coverages he can see,” he said. “I mean, we’ve seen so many different defenses, whether it’s doubles or single coverage or heavy plugs, whatever it is. I credit his preparation. I credit the fact that he just lives it, you know, every, every single day.”
Scheyer also praised his team’s overall defensive efficiency and also praised other key players, including Nik Khamenia and Caleb Foster.
