Lane Kiffin is still adding valuable pieces to the LSU Tigers ahead of his first season as the head coach of the program. Kiffin joined the Tigers last year after a six-season run with the Ole Miss Rebels from 2020 to 2025.
Kiffin’s abrupt departure from Ole Miss was shocking. He had built a strong team over the years, and the Rebels were playoff-bound when he decided to uproot his life and leave for the LSU Tigers.
The 50-year-old was heavily criticized for his decision, especially because of how he always maintained he wasn’t leaving Ole Miss. There were rumors throughout the season about Kiffin going elsewhere, but he always said that his focus was on Ole Miss football.
Nobody knows what the Rebels could’ve done if Kiffin had stayed until the end of the season. In his statement, he revealed that he wanted to stay, but the Athletic Director didn’t accept his condition.
The LSU Tigers, on the other hand, benefited from his decision because, after firing Brian Kelly, they needed someone like Kiffin who could build a culture. Since joining LSU, Kiffin has been busy stacking up his team with new players and coaching staff, but he’s still keeping an eye on who the Rebels are hiring.
The recent addition to the Ole Miss staff is Brian Kelly’s son, Patrick Kelly. As per Kelly’s X profile bio, he is the new Assistant Director of Football Support for the Ole Miss Rebels.
LSU Football staff writer Preston Guy posted a screenshot of Kelly’s profile on X. Kiffin responded to the post with a one-word message, congratulating Brian Kelly’s son.
“Congrats,” Kiffin wrote.
Kiffin has received a huge budget and freedom to build his team, and the results are looking great on paper.
Brian Kelly Believes Lane Kiffin Could Win a Championship
During a recent conversation with USA Today’s Blake Toppmeyer and John Brice, Brian Kelly was asked to give a simple yes or no answer. The question he was asked was, “Will Lane Kiffin win a national championship at LSU?”
Kelly didn’t give a yes or no answer, but he believes that Kiffin could win a title with the LSU Tigers.
“I think so,” Kelly said. “That wasn’t yes… Here’s why I would say yes, okay, I think that they have invested in NIL for him. They have given him the opportunity. There’s a lot of good things moving in that direction. The recruiting classes are really in solid shape.”
In addition to that, he believes that Kiffin is a very smart coach who will be able to use all the resources and take the Tigers to a national title win.
