“I Am Somewhat Underwhelmed”: Paul Finebaum Shares Blunt Verdict on LSU’S $90M Man Lane Kiffin Being “Overrated”

Lane Kiffin has established himself as one of the most controversial coaches in the college football world currently, be is because of his quirky posts online or his decision to leave Ole Miss in the middle of it’s playoff run.

Paul Finebaum has been one of the most vocal critics of the new LSU head coach, especially since the time when rumors of Kiffin leaving Ole Miss started to surface the internet.

Kiffin and the Rebels were in the middle of one of the best years they’ve had as a franchise in its history and then he decided to not coach them in the playoffs because he took a job at LSU.

Talking about most overrated coaches in college football, Paul Finebaum named Kiffin as one and said giving him all the credit for the Rebels’ success last year doesn’t feel right as he wasn’t there for the most important ones.

“The most intriguing name on whether he’s overrated or not is Lane Kiffin. And I think a year from today, if you have me back and Lane Kiffin has not made the playoffs, I would put him at the top of the list because it’s so hard to give him total credit for what happened last year because he did not do the most important thing on the Ole Miss schedule. He didn’t win those playoff games. He didn’t beat Georgia. Now, he beat Georgia two years ago at home, but I am somewhat underwhelmed by Lane Kiffin’s overall record against top 10 teams.” Finebaum said.

Brian Kelly Makes Bold Lane Kiffin Prediction for Time at LSU

Brian Kelly, who was fired in the middle of the season as the LSU head coach in 2025, has been looking for a new job with the help of AI.

Talking about what the future might hold for the team he previously coached under Lane Kiffin’s guidance, Kelly shared his predictions.

During a conversation with USA Today, Kelly said he believes Kiffin can win a national championship at LSU because the program has invested in NIL for him, which gives him the opportunity to move in the right direction.

“I think it’s in a really good place, and I believe because there’s an investment in that NIL he’s going to be able to be Lane Kiffin. And that’s important.” Kelly said on Wednesday.

Kelly also highlighted that the LSU recruiting classes are in solid shape and called Kiffin a really smart coach.
