Ty Simpson is gearing up for the 2026 NFL Draft that’s set to take place from April 23 to April 25.
While the Alabama star is prepared to move to the next chapter of his career, Simpson revisited the Indiana game he played in the 2025 college football season during a recent conversation with Josh and Caleb Downs.
The Crimson Tide faced one of their most brutal losses in a longtime against the Hoosiers in last year’s Rose Bowl matchup, that ended with an overall score of 38-3.
Simpson spoke about the game and admitted that Indiana didn’t really do anything different in that game, however, he admitted that Alabama couldn’t run the ball at all, which was one of the key causes of the disappointing loss. He said:
“I was like, ‘They don’t do much.’ I was like, ‘They do the same thing every down.’ When I got the ball, I knew exactly what was going to happen. They just didn’t mess up, bro. They were in the exact same spot they were supposed to be. They were so well-coached.
“It was so much different than the SEC. The SEC will play man, they’ll do these unorthodox coverages because that’s kind of how it is.”
He continued:
“That game was crazy to me, of course I got hurt so that was a bummer. I just knew what they were going to do. We couldn’t really run the ball. We didn’t really throw. It was so crazy to me how it happened.”
Ty Simpson Opens Up About Difference Between Nick Saban and Kalen DeBoer
Talking about the transition from being coached by Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer, Ty Simpson said that while the seven-time national champ was like a king at the program, the current Alabama head coach is more like a player’s coach.
Simpson further said that when DeBoer would ask the players about their opinion in his first year with the program, all the players would be shocked as it’s not something they were used to.
“We were caught off guard like what do you mean,” Simpson said.
The ex-Alabama quarterback further added that things were different during DeBoer’s second year in Tuscaloosa as the players understood him a little bit better, and vice versa.
