“More of a Team Guy”: Trinidad Chambliss Drops Subtle Jibe at Lane Kiffin With Pete Golding Judgment

In a recent press conference, quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who is returning for a final season with the Ole Miss Rebels, was asked what the differences were between Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding.

The response, while commensurate and offered in a respectful manner, clearly revealed a bit of what the Rebels thought of Kiffin’s decision to abandon them in the wake of their most important postseason games in decades.

“The personalities are a little different than our old coach and coach Golding. I’d say he’s more of a team guy. We really value his leadership, whatever he says. He shows you faster than I can tell you. He leads by his actions, and we really appreciate that,” Chambliss said.

Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU as the Rebels were about to go on a College Football Playoff run for the first time in program history was one of the biggest stories in the sport at the tail end of the season.

For weeks, negotiations in Oxford dragged on, as the world of college football held its breath, waiting to know if Kiffin would coach the Rebels during the CFP.

In the end, he didn’t, but Ole Miss managed to reach the semifinals regardless. They did so under the leadership of defensive coordinator Pete Golding, who was announced as the team’s interim coach and has since been promoted as the full-time head coach.

Pete Golding responds to Dabo Swinney’s claims of tampering in Luke Ferrelli’s recruitment

In January, Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney accused Ole Miss of tampering with the recruitment of linebacker Luke Ferrelli, who had already enrolled and committed to Clemson, and had even enrolled in some classes at the school before changing his mind and transferring to Ole Miss.

This Tuesday at a press conference, Golding was asked about Swinney’s comments from earlier in the year, and he had this to say about the entire situation:

“Obviously, there’s two sides to every story, right? So I’m not going to sit up here and use the podium as a grandstand and all of that. That’s why there is enforcement. That’s why we have our compliance office. They do all that.”

It’s a sign of the times we are living in that not even a student having enrolled in the school he committed to is enough to guarantee that he will play for them.
