Lane Kiffin became one of the biggest stories of the 2025 college football season after he decided to leave Ole Miss in the middle of their playoff journey and take the head coaching job at LSU.
Kiffin had just won the Egg Bowl, and his decision to leave the Rebels was criticized by many fans and analysts.
Senator Ted Cruz, who is looking to introduce legislation to address key issues facing college sports, spoke to Andy and Ari on Thursday and said the newly introduced bill is inspired by what happened with Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss.
“It is absolutely the Lane Kiffin provision. That is how we envisioned it, and that’s what we drafted. And it says that a university cannot recruit or hire a head coach or an offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator while the season is happening or during the playoffs.
“Basically what we did is we adopted the rule the NFL has… I think what happened with Lane Kiffin was really unfair to the student athletes; it’s not fair if you’re playing to suddenly have your coach leave in the middle of the season as you’re going into the playoffs, I just think that’s bad for the system.”
Pete Golding Shares Details on Relationship With Lane Kiffin
Pete Golding has handled Lane Kiffin’s various comments with class since the coach’s departure from Ole Miss.
In a Wednesday interview, Golding was asked about Kiffin’s recent comments and said there are two layers to their relationship: one is where they’re buddies, and the other is the professional side.
”Then there’s the professional side that I have to get on his a** about a little bit sometimes,” Golding said. “Every time he gets in front of a camera, they’re bringing up Ole Miss.”
Golding further called Kiffin’s exit from Ole Miss imperfect and said that anybody who has been to Oxford knows that the LSU head coach’s comments about recruiting issues at his former school are not true.
