Three-star interior offensive lineman Lucas Rhoa announced his commitment to Steve Sarkisian and Texas on Thursday. He chose the Longhorns over Penn State, Oregon and UCLA.
While Texas fans celebrated the commitment, rival fan bases took playful jabs at Sarkisian and the Longhorns.
One user wrote: “Does he know Sark can’t win big games?”
“He’ll be at Penn State in a year,” another user wrote.
“3 star U still doing 3 star things I see lol,” one fan wrote.
A Tennessee supporter added another jab: “Must want to lose to Tennessee.”
Not every reaction was critical, though. Several fans praised Texas for landing the player.
“This dude is a beast, nice get for Texas,” one fan posted.
“Must love those Directors Cups,” another added.
How did Texas Land Lucas Rhoa
As per Rhoa, offensive line coach Kyle Flood played a major role in recruiting him.
“Just sitting in meetings with Coach Flood, it’s crazy to see. He pulled up a slide. His track record, he really has done it all. He put me on the phone with Kelvin (Banks) and talking to him, just great insight,” Rhoa said to On3.
Texas managed to beat Penn State despite Rhoa’s family ties to the Nittany Lions.
He will be joining a lineup that already consists of Brian Swanson, Keyon Hemphill-Woods, Jackson Cook, and more in Texas’ 2027 recruiting class.
Regardless of the reactions online, the Texas Longhorns continue to build momentum on the recruiting trail.
With several more high-profile recruiting decisions expected later this offseason, the Longhorns appear far from finished in assembling a strong team for the upcoming season.
