    “RIP Legend”: Fans Pay Tribute as Louisville Cardinals Lose Former SID, Kenny Klein

    The University of Louisville lost one of its most beloved figures. Kenny Klein, who was the former Sports Information Director (SID) for almost four decades, passed away on Thursday.

    Louisville Athletics shared a post on social media announcing Klein’s death. They offered their condolences to his family and friends.

    “We are devastated at the passing of our dear friend Kenny Klein. He will always be synonymous with Louisville, beloved locally and revered nationally.

    “Our hearts are with the entire Klein family and everyone whose life was better because he was in it. Kenny Klein was, and will always be, a Cardinal Forever.”

    Social media started flooding with various reactions paying homage to Kenny Klein.

    Kenny Klein took over as the University of Florida’s Sports Information Director in 1983. He held this position until his retirement in 2022. He was inducted into the state’s Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

    University of Kentucky releases statement on Kenny Klein’s death

    In their statement, the University of Kentucky highlighted Kenny Klein’s achievements throughout his life.

    They also recognized his importance in the development of the athletic division and highlighted his good-natured characteristics.

    “Kenny Klein was one of the most treasured figures in the history of Louisville Athletics,” the statement read. “For almost 40 years, Kenny gave himself completely to this University, to our student-athletes, our coaches, our staff, and our fans. He was the keeper of our stories, the guardian of our history, and the steady, smiling presence that made everyone around him feel seen and valued.

    “Kenny Klein was kind. He was generous. He was humble. He made everyone from the newest student manager to the most seasoned sportswriter feel like they mattered. … In a profession that demands so much, Kenny never lost sight of what mattered most: people.”

    The University also offered its heartfelt condolences to Klein’s family as they grieve his death.
