Months after being fired by LSU midway through the 2025 season, Brian Kelly has reportedly landed a new job with CBS Sports. According to Front Office Sports, Kelly will serve as a college football analyst during the 2026 season, calling Mountain West games while also appearing on CBS Sports Network’s “Inside College Football.”
Shortly after the news came out, fans filled the replies with jokes.
“Geesh, now we gotta see him on tv,” one wrote.
“Why?? He’s awful. Has he lost the fake southern accent?” another added.
“Will he still have his southern accent?” one fan joked.
“Can’t wait to hear the evolving accent based on teams being covered,” another wrote.
Some fans also poked fun at his coaching tendencies.
“No doubt he’s calling a timeout within 30 seconds,” another one wrote.
“Good. It’s not like I watch a lot of Mountain West games anyway,” another fan posted.
This will be the coach’s first major television role after spending more than two decades on the sidelines.
Is Brian Kelly Giving Up On His Coaching Dream?
Kelly finished with a 34-14 record at LSU and wasn’t able to guide the Tigers to a College Football Playoff appearance. And this resulted in the program letting him go and bringing in former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin.
The broadcasting role doesn’t mean that he has given up on his coaching career. Kelly has previously said that he still hopes to return to coaching in the future.
“I wanna be back coaching, that’s what I love to do, I think what’s clear to me is I miss the relationships. I miss being with the players and that to me is what drives me. That’s my passion in wanting to do that. … But for me, it’s not necessarily about the right fit as much as where are we going to be with college football. That allows me to build those relationships with players. And so I think that that’s really important. And at the end of the day, for me to be at a place where relationships are still part of the process of being in college football,” he told USA Today.
Whether fans tune in because of his football insight or simply to see what memorable moment comes next, Kelly’s move to CBS ensures he’ll remain part of college football for the 2026 season.
