“We’re Going to Win a National Championship”: Lane Kiffin Exudes Massive Confidence on Expected Success at LSU

Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave Ole Miss and join LSU as their new coach was among the biggest stories in the last leg of the 2025 college football season.

While many fans and analysts were upset with Kiffin for ditching the Rebels right before the College Football Playoff, others believed it was a good opportunity for him to add a national championship to his resume.

Talking about his mindset now that he is LSU coach, Kiffin said during a Wednesday conversation with former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu that his expectation for the program is to restore the style the Tigers once possessed.

Kiffin also added that he wants all the other programs to fear them, just like he used to fear the Tigers while he was an assistant coach at Alabama.

“I don’t know how fast it’s going to happen,” Kiffin said. “We’re going to win a national championship. And we’re going to have the teams and the rosters back to the way they played when they were great. I don’t know how fast. That might not be today, right? But it’s going to happen. And I feel it in recruiting, too, when these kids come in here. And now that we’ve got our staff fully here and we know how to sell LSU, too, because we’re meeting up with people and getting to know the restaurants, the areas, and the people like it’s one-to-one. Yeah. What Nick Saban said is the best job in America.”

Analyst Expresses Faith in Lane Kiffin for the 2026 College Football Season

College football analyst Joel Klatt recently weighed in on his favorite Over/Under win total bets for the 2026 season in his latest YouTube video.

While the oddsmakers set LSU’s over/under win total at 8.5, Klatt said he believes it’s a low number for Kiffin’s team.

“What about LSU at 8.5?” Klatt asked. “I think LSU at 8.5 is a little bit low. They’ve got to get through their tough September. I think that they go 3-1 in their September. … They then have a tough November with Alabama, Texas and Tennessee. They may only have to win one of those to get to nine. I think Lane Kiffin is going to do a really good job at LSU.”

Klatt further affirmed his faith in Kiffin and said he thinks the former Ole Miss coach will do a good job at LSU.
