Aryna Sabalenka has recently spoken out about the disturbing level of hate she receives on social media, revealing that some messages directed at her are extremely abusive, even including derogatory terms like “wh*re.”
Sabalenka was last seen in action at the Italian Open, where she endured a disappointing campaign and failed to defend her title. Her run came to an early end after a three-set loss to Sorana Cirstea in the third round.
Following her exit in Rome, Aryna Sabalenka spoke candidly in an interview with Vogue, where she addressed the hateful messages she receives online. She admitted that she finds it shocking that people can harbor such intense negativity toward her, adding that the nature of these comments is deeply wrong and difficult to comprehend.
“With a lot of love and a lot of attention and a lot of success, there’s always gonna be people who judge you,” Aryna Sabalenka said. “They judge your look, they judge your grunting, your nationality, even your private life, your choices. I don’t scroll a lot, but sometimes I’ll see random comments on Instagram, TikTok, Threads, and I’ll ask my manager, ‘Do people really hate me that much?’ Then I go into the stadium and I feel so much support, and I realize that on the internet, it’s so few people, but it’s so loud.”
“Sometimes it’s a fake account, and I think, You don’t even have the balls to show your face? Or sometimes you click on the profile, and you see it’s a mother with three kids, a happy family living a very conventional, perfect life. And the stuff that she’s messaging you, it’s ‘I want you to die, I want your family to have cancer, you’re a whore.’ And I think: There’s something wrong with this planet,” the Belarusian added.

Sabalenka appears focused and refreshed heading into Roland Garros, officially closing the chapter on her Rome campaign. Reflecting on her time there, she admitted that while things didn’t end the way she had hoped, the experience still offered valuable lessons that she intends to carry forward.
“Not every story ends the way you want, but every chapter teaches you something. Rome, thank you for the love ❤️ Ciao bella, see you soon,” she wrote on Instagram.
Aryna Sabalenka will enter the French Open as the top seed, leading a stacked draw that includes Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula, among others. Notably, Gauff returns as the defending champion.
