Jannik Sinner has done it again, clinching the 2026 Italian Open title after defeating Casper Ruud in the final. However, despite his continued dominance, many fans have expressed mixed feelings, with some even calling his winning streak “boring.”

Sinner came into Rome in red-hot form, having already lifted titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, and Madrid. He carried that momentum into the Italian Open, defeating Sebastian Ofner, Alexei Popyrin, Andrea Pellegrino, Andrey Rublev, and Daniil Medvedev en route to the final.

In the championship match on Sunday, May 17, Jannik Sinner delivered another composed performance, beating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 on Campo Centrale to secure his first Rome ATP Masters 1000 title. The 105-minute victory also saw the Italian complete a rare Career Golden Masters and end a 50-year wait for a home men’s champion at the Foro Italico, a drought that dated back to Adriano Panatta’s triumph in 1976.

Fans have now taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustration with Jannik Sinner’s continued dominance, with one user writing:

“There was time when Iga was dominating WTA, selling bagels left & right, still girls were able to show some resistance and make matches exciting (Ons, Sabalenka, Krejcikova, Samsonova, Penko). But ATP right now just lets Sinner run over them. Zero excitement.”

“On the other hand, has there ever been a sport that is as uncompetitive as men’s tennis at the moment?? utterly disappointing,” another wrote.

“The lack of real competition surely helps – looks like a duopoly- can someone young break through? Stay tuned!” one user posted.

“The year is 2076. Jannik Sinner has just won his 2,983rd Masters 1000 match in a row, beating his opponent Rafael Nadal III in his 52nd Rome final. Fans still wait for Carlos Alcaraz to return from his wrist injury,” another tweeted.

“Not good times for tennis fans as I’ve recently stopped watching this sport, we all know it’s either him or him to sweep all the slams & masters, especially post Alcaraz’s injury,” one account commented.

“Congrats to him but this is getting boring. As long as Alcaraz is out, every tournament every slam that he’s in, it will always be Sinner. Sincaraz before is predictable and starting to be boring, what more now??” another joined in.

Jannik Sinner Congratulates Casper Ruud After Italian Open Win

Jannik Sinner maintained his class during his victory speech at the 2026 Italian Open, as he made sure to congratulate Casper Ruud for his impressive run and also wished him the best for the upcoming French Open.

    Sinner said:

“Casper first of all congrats to you and your whole team. It’s great to see you back playing the highest level of our sport. Now the mort important tournament for you personally is coming up. I wish you only the best. I’m very happy for you that things are going very well for you off the court, for you and your fiancée. Wish you only the best for future events.”

Next up for Jannik Sinner is the French Open, where he will be the top seed and enter as the favorite. It presents a huge opportunity for the Italian to go all the way this year, especially with defending champion and his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz set to miss the tournament due to a wrist injury.
