Swiss maestro and one of the greatest tennis players, Roger Federer, is set to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in August during a grand induction ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island. The official announcement about the ceremony came last year from the HOF association’s senior executives.
In contrast, Federer learned of his Hall of Fame induction via a special video call at his junior training facility in Switzerland, where he stood before a giant screen alongside the next generation of tennis players. The call included some of the sports’ legends, who shared the exciting news with Federer.
The Swiss legend’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony watch party tickets went on sale on Wednesday, and, as is the aura of the 20-time Grand Slam champion, they sold out in less than two minutes.
Alongside Federer, sportscaster and tennis journalist Mary Carillo will also be honored, as she has been inducted into the Contributor Category, which recognizes individuals who have played an immense role in shaping the sport of tennis for several years by avidly reporting, writing, and raising essential topics related to the sport.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand alongside so many of the game’s great champions. Throughout my career, I’ve always valued the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me,” Federer said on receiving the HOF induction honor.
“It was very special to receive the news at Swiss Tennis, surrounded by the next generation of players — the place where my own journey first began. To be recognized in this way by the sport and by my peers is deeply humbling. I look forward to visiting Newport next August to celebrate this special moment with the tennis community,” he added.
Roger Federer to Play in On-Court Celebration at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
The Hall of Fame induction festivities will be held over three days from Aug. 27-29, and fans can get many opportunities to see the Swiss legend up close and personal. In an official announcement about the three-day events, the Tennis HOF committee announced that Federer would play doubles alongside other tennis legends as part of the celebrations.
Furthermore, fans will also get the opportunity to witness an exclusive Red Carpet Pre-Show where Federer, Carillo, and other tennis legends and past inductees of the Tennis Hall of Fame will grace the event, interact with fans, and click pictures, making it a memorable experience for them.
Any fan who has managed to purchase tickets for the event, which went on sale Wednesday, is going to have an incredible experience, something anyone would remember for the rest of their lives.
