Eugenie Bouchard posed a startling question on social media after the ongoing Milano-Cortina Games were rocked by a shocking revelation from a Norwegian athlete shortly after the medal ceremony for the 20km men’s individual biathlon event. After winning bronze at the event, Sturla Holm Laegreid began to shed tears as he confessed on live television that he had cheated on his ex-girlfriend.
Elaborating on his confession, Laegreid said he had an affair three months ago and told his girlfriend of six months about it last week, calling it the most challenging and sorrowful week of his life. The Norwegian also admitted that it was the biggest mistake of his life to go ahead with the affair.
As the media buzzed with the viral news, many began to raise questions. Some wondered whether the Winter Games were the best platform to make such a claim, that too after a medal event, possibly spoiling the celebrations of the two athletes who finished ahead of him.
Former WTA pro Bouchard also raised a question on social media as soon as the news broke out.
“The big question re the Olympian who confessed to cheating on his gf… IS SHE TAKING HIM BACK???” Bouchard wrote in her X post.
Bouchard, who reached a career-high ranking of World No. 5, announced her retirement from the sport last year after the Canadian Open, where she lost her second-round match to Belinda Bencic in three sets. Since her retirement, the Canadian has turned her attention to pickleball and is currently doing well in the sport.
