Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, is a soccer star who plays for the USWNT and the Washington Spirit at the club level. Such is her stature in the sport that she became the highest-paid female soccer player in the world upon re-signing with the Spirit in January, during the final stretch of the offseason.
However, her teammate and good friend, Croix Bethune, couldn’t secure a new deal with the Spirit and was instead acquired by the Kansas City Current for $1 million in transfer. Bethune, the 2024 NWSL Rookie of the Year and Midfielder of the Year, joins a Current side that topped the league standings last year with a 21-3-2 overall record.
After the announcement of Bethune’s transfer, Rodman shared fond memories of their time during their playing days at Spirit, which lasted two seasons. Rodman captioned one of her Instagram stories as:
“I’m sad 😔. ❤️❤️ My baby ❤️❤️ @croixbethune.”

The duo led the Spirit to the NWSL Championship game two years in a row, losing to the Orlando Pride in 2024 and Gotham FC last year. Bethune and Rodman had a neat way of clicking on the field, since the former was an attacking midfielder and the latter a forward.
Rodman has always been vocal about showing her emotions in public and about supporting her loved ones. When not dominating on the soccer field, she is often in the stands supporting Shelton during his tennis matches. Most recently, she was in Auckland, New Zealand, cheering for Shelton during the ASB Classic in January.
The World No. 9 had a disappointing run in the Australian swing, finishing with no silverware. He was knocked out of the ASB Classic (by Sebastian Baez) and the Australian Open (by Jannik Sinner) in the quarterfinals. Now, the 23-year-old American is gearing up for the ATP 500 Dallas Open.
Ben Shelton to Face Adrian Mannarino in the Round of 16 at the Dallas Open
Shelton announced both singles and doubles participation at the Dallas Open. While he won his opening doubles match alongside compatriot Aleksandar Kovacevic, the duo lost their quarterfinal clash in three sets on Wednesday.
Now, Shelton, who was aiming for double silverware in Dallas, will have to fight his way towards the title in men’s singles. He defeated Gabriel Diallo in straight sets on Tuesday and will next face Adrian Mannarino in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Since a disappointing Australian swing, Shelton has tumbled down the ATP rankings. He will aim to secure crucial points by winning the Dallas Open and then contending for another ATP 500 title at the Mexican Open in Acapulco, Mexico, starting February 23.
