Rafael Nadal brought along his son, Rafael Nadal Jr., at the 2026 Madrid Open. The 14-time Roland Garros champion and his wife, Maria Francisca Perelló, welcomed their first son on October 8, 2022, in Mallorca, Spain.
Lately, Nadal Jr. has been spotted at several tennis tournaments around Spain. His latest glimpse came on Thursday in Madrid, where Nadal can be seen dropping tennis balls on the clay surface, inviting his son to hit with his backhand.
Nadal Jr.’s backhand looks formidable at such an age, but many feel it’s not tennis that he might pursue in the future.
In the comments section, many fans said Nadal Jr. has the attributes to become a golfer with that kind of swing.
“Golf or tennis monster in training with that backhand!!” one fan wrote.
“I’m getting golf vibes though,” another fan wrote.
“Last shot… he shows clear signs of golfer,” one fan commented.
“Noup, salió golfista,” another added.
“It does look like a golf swing tbh, probably he’s learning both, or copying his dad,” one fan said.
Meanwhile, there were some fans who believed that a bright future awaits for the young tennis star.
“Three-year-old Rafa already cleaner through the ball than half the tour. ” The family genetics have decided to be annoying again,” one fan wrote.
“Oh, he’s definitely winning Roland Garros in a few years,” one fan added.
“He’s getting ready to avenge his dad and beat Carlos Alcaraz in like 15 years hahaha,” one fan commented.
What Rafael Nadal Has Said About His Son’s Interest in Tennis
Even though it might appear that Rafael Nadal is fueling his son’s desire to play tennis, the 22-time Grand Slam champion has previously admitted that he would welcome his son playing a different sport, as well as it is good for education and the right values. In an interview with The Masters, Nadal said:
“I mean, I want them to play a sport but it doesn’t matter which sport, to be honest. I think growing in a sports atmosphere I think it’s good for education, it’s good to grow up with the right values and I don’t care if my son only plays football, he plays golf, he plays tennis, basketball or anything. I think it is good for the coordination and it is good that they are active.
“They don’t stay in front of the TV all day. I love them to be outside, practicing and being active. I think that’s the best thing and then if someday they like to try something else in any sport, fantastic.”
Nadal prefers his sons spending more time in the open field than playing video games in a closed room.
