Donald Trump Says Tennis Is “Not Easy” While Honoring NCAA Champs Wake Forest & Georgia Bulldogs At White House

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump invited winners across different college sports to the White House, including Wake Forest in men’s tennis, Georgia in women’s tennis, Oklahoma State in men’s golf, Texas A&M in women’s volleyball, Youngstown State in women’s bowling, Florida State in women’s soccer and West Virginia in mixed rifle.

Trump praised the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, who won the NCAA men’s tennis championship by defeating the TCU Horned Frogs 4-2 in the final. He put focus on their challenging postseason and gave special mention to DK Suresh, who clinched the decisive point.

“They battled through a fierce postseason to claim their second national title,” Trump said. “DK Suresh delivered the clinching point to seal a 4–2 victory over TCU in the final. And I want to congratulate you, and I see you right there. I said, ‘Who’s the best player on the team?’ And they all pointed to him, right? So, congratulations. That’s really incredible, DK, what you’ve done. You had a great year. You all had a great year. Thank you very much.”

Trump shifted his focus to the Georgia Bulldogs, who won the 2025 NCAA women’s tennis championship. He highlighted how Sophia Rojas registered a comeback victory after dropping the first set.

“Up next are the 2025 NCAA Women’s Tennis Champions, the Georgia Bulldogs, who just captured their third national title,” Trump said. “Sophia Rojas sealed this team’s incredible victory, losing the first set before roaring back to dominate the next two and clinch Georgia’s sweep over Texas A&M. And all I can say is, ‘Go Bulldogs.’ That’s a great state, I love that state. Did very well there, too, in the election. You know, I only like the states that I win. So, it’s one of those.”

Before he moved on to other sports, Trump explained that it’s not easy to win in tennis, coming from someone who has tried the sport.

“What a great job. That’s not easy, winning in tennis,” Trump added. “That’s a tough thing to do. I play tennis a little bit, not quite at that level, not quite, but that’s a great achievement.”
