Naomi Osaka Faces Backlash Over Madrid Open ‘Scarf’ Look As Fans Slam Constant Focus On Tennis Fashion

Even though the results haven’t gone her way lately, Naomi Osaka continues to steal the spotlight with her dynamic and eye-popping outfits. She once again found herself at the center of attention.

At the 2026 Madrid Open, Osaka walked onto the court wearing a head scarf as part of her pre-match outfit. The look quickly went viral on social media as Osaka continued with her trend of bold and expressive fashion choices.

The enormous attention to the unconventional ‘scarf’ drew backlash, and the Japanese tennis star was slammed for constantly focusing on fashion rather than tennis.

“Can she just focus on tennis?” one fan commented.

“She looks like a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines,” another fan noted.

“Nobody cares button—> 🔴,” one user posted.

“For someone who doesn’t like interviews she sure does like attention. 🤷🏾‍♀️,” a follower remarked.

“Love the players who have fun with fashion. What’s wrong with a little fun with their sport?” one fan questioned.

“Oh look at me, I want privacy but attention at the same time 🥸,” another commenter added.

Naomi Osaka Gives Reason to Smack Down Concerns After Retirement Hint Last Month

After losing her opening match to Talia Gibson at the Miami Open, Naomi Osaka dropped retirement hints, saying she’d rather be a full-time mother than suffer first-round exits.

“I’m not going to stay on tour if I’m losing in the first round. I’d rather just be a great mom and be there for my daughter,” she said.

However, the four-time Grand Slam champion made a winning return in Madrid, defeating Camila Osorio, 6-2, 7-5. After the match, Osaka shared that she has brought her daughter Shai along on the daughter.

“I was able to go home, pretty much be a mom,” Osaka said.

“So I would take her to school, pick her up from school, and it was really cool. She’s here with me so just getting to see her face and going to practises and coming back, it’s been really special to me. I think her growing older and just being able to figure out her schedule, with school, it’s been really helpful, and I also just really love travelling with her, showing her the world and just exploring.”

Having Shai by her side, Osaka feels revitalized and motivated, and maybe this would encourage her enough not to retire anytime soon.
