“Disgusting” – Serena Williams’ Coach Attacks Sandy Brondello Critics After ‘Racist’ Allegations Over Angel Reese Remark

Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs, recently took a dig at the critics of Tempo Toronto coach Sandy Brondello, following her controversial remark about Angel Reese.

During Toronto’s game against Atlanta Dream on July 17, Brondello received a one-game suspension from the WNBA after referring to Reese as a ‘protected species’ while arguing with officials following a clash that injured the Toronto player Nyara Sabally. Following this incident, the coach issued a public apology, taking accountability for her words.

The incident sparked widespread backlash online. One of the users on Instagram Threads also criticized Stubbs for her support toward Brondello, writing:

“Let me message her to let her know that while I’m disappointed in her remarks, I’m happy to support her as she learns from this mistake, and together we can seek a broader understanding of why what was said was problematic. That’s what a real friend does -they tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear.”

Lashing back at the critic, Stubbs penned a bold reply that read:

“Oh you don’t think i haven’t spoken to my friend of 40 years on the phone about this or to Becky also. This is why people on the internet who know none of these people personally need to reconsider what they spew about them. And the blanket statement that someone is a racist THAT ISNT and trying to cancel them, is disgusting. I hope you’ve been a perfect human you’re entire life because one day u might do or say something that’s interpreted differently and u might want some grace!”

Serena Williams’ coach explained why Sandy Brondello’s remark on Angel Reese was not racist

Shortly after Sandy Brondello’s remark about Angel Reese, the Las Vegas Aces coach, Becky Hammon defended the Tempo coach during a conversation with the media. The video of Hammon supporting Brondello circulated widely online, and one user bashed both the coaches on Threads, writing:

This comment drew Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs’, attention, who defended Brondello, stating that being an Australian herself, she understood what the coach meant by her remark. Arguing that it was not intended to be racist, she wrote:

“A former colleague and coach who is a black women [sic.] said the exact same thing. Are you going to attack her too? Or are you going to maybe listen to the people who personally know Sandy and know the person she is. And as an Australian i can tell u, that comment is not about color of someone’s skin but of bad refereeing in sports, from one’s eyes. Sandy is literally the kindest person you could ever meet and “not a racist!” That quote from her former colleague,” wrote Serena Williams’ coach.

Rennae Stubbs recently gave a priceless reaction to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner vacationing with their girlfriends.
