Naomi Osaka hasn’t played many tournaments in 2026 because of injuries, raising concerns about whether she is at the end of her career. Osaka last played at the 2026 Miami Open, where she was defeated in the Round of 64 against Talia Gibson.
Osaka had earlier said that if the early round exits continue, she might consider being a parent alone, suggesting she is willing to drop her tennis career.
On Monday, Osaka dropped an update from a clay practice court on Instagram. Osaka shared a video where she is practicing sliding across the surface. It’s an important skill, especially on clay courts, where movements are important to manage.

Osaka is a four-time Grand Slam champion, but her clay results haven’t been great over the years. At the ultimate Roland Garros, the deepest she has advanced in the tournament is the third round. She will look forward to prepare in such a way that she can manage to get past the third round at least.
Naomi Osaka in “Dilemma” Balancing Motherhood and Tennis
Naomi Osaka has already decided not to participate in the 2026 Charleston Open. But she is expected to participate in the Madrid Open, the Italian Open (Rome) and the French Open (Roland Garros).
Being a mother to daughter Shai, Osaka is trying to balance both important parts of her life, leaving her in a dilemma.
“I feel like this also is a dilemma for me,” Osaka told reporters. “For me, my daughter is very important, and I want to be a mom. I want to be the best mom I can, but sometimes I feel like I know what I have to do to become a really good player, and it’s very difficult. Because for me, I want to win titles and I want to be the best player I can, but if I have to sacrifice having a lot of time with my daughter, I’d rather not do it.”
Earlier this year, Osaka withdrew from the third round of the Australian Open due to abdominal injury. At Indian Wells, she suffered a defeat at the hands of World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
