“Coco Gauff Deserved To Lose” – Fans Stunned By American’s Crucial Match-Point Error Leading To Wimbledon SF Loss

Karolina Muchova and Coco Gauff played a dramatic match in the Wimbledon semifinal on Thursday. The American lost in the end, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10). This was heartbreaking for Gauff, as she held a match point in the deciding tiebreak but failed to convert it.

Gauff held match point at 10-9 in the deciding-set tiebreak. She opened the point with a strong serve that put Muchova on the defensive. However, instead of finishing with a routine shot, Gauff attempted a drop shot. The ball caught the top of the net and fell back onto her side of the court.

The miss proved costly as Muchova capitalized on the momentum shift, winning the next three points and therefore the match.

Fans on X reacted to Gauff losing the match point.

The reference resonated among Jannik Sinner fans as well. Last year, the Italian was in a winning position at the Roland Garros final before letting the match slip away in a five-set thriller against Carlos Alcaraz.

One tennis fan remembered that painful loss after watching the thriller unfold between Muchova and Gauff at the All England Club.

“I think I understand how sinner fans feel when they see THAT Roland Garros scoreline …,” the fan wrote.

How Coco Gauff’s Best Ever Wimbledon Run Ended

Coco Gauff has never found success at Wimbledon. Her previous best before entering this edition at the All England Club was reaching the fourth round. She had never advanced past the Round of 16 in her previous six trips.

However, this year was looking different.

The two-time Grand Slam champion made her way into the semis by beating Belinda Bencic in the Round of 16 and Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal. Both wins came after she dropped the first set.

In the semis against Karolina Muchova, she also dropped the first set before rebounding in the second and forcing the decider. The third set remained on serve before heading to a dramatic tiebreak.

Gauff was on the verge of reaching her first Wimbledon final when she earned match point in the tiebreak. However, Muchova saved it before winning the breaker 12-10 and the match after more than two and a half hours.

“It sounds really nice to be in the final. It was such a big fight. It was a rollercoaster, you’re up and down,” Muchova said after the match. “In 10 seconds you have a match point, then you’re match point down. There’s no time to think, but very nerve-racking. I don’t even know what I’m saying. I’m really shaking and trying to let it sink in, but the atmosphere here, indescribable.”

Muchova’s victory also set up the first all-Czech Wimbledon women’s singles final, where she will face Linda Nosková. In the other semifinal on Thursday, Nosková defeated 12th seed Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4.
