“Unnecessarily Annoying” – Nadal’s Uncle Faces Fan Backlash After Controversial Alexander Zverev-Stan Wawrinka Comparison

Rafael Nadal’s uncle, Toni Nadal, recently did an Alexander Zverev and Stan Wawrinka comparison after the former first Grand Slam win at Roland Garros. His statements garnered an immense backlash from fans, who slammed him, calling his opinions unnecessary.

Zverev recently won his first-ever major title after producing a staunch performance at the French Open. From defeating top-notch players, including Tomas Machac, Jesper de Jong, Rafael Jodar, Jakub Mensik, and more, he progressed to the finals. In the last round, he met Flavio Cobolli and, after a tight match, claimed a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-2 victory.

Their grueling battle on the red clay lasted for 4 hours and 16 minutes. Shortly after his win, Nadal’s uncle, Toni, passed judgement on his game by comparing him to Wawrinka. Calling the German a ‘better’ player as compared to the Swiss, he highlighted Zverev’s obsession with winning a major title.

“For me, Zverev is a better player than Wawrinka. He had an obsession with winning a Grand Slam, and that created a lot of tension. This victory will bring him closer to Sinner and Alcaraz, and it will allow him to play much more aggressively,” said Nadal.

    Toni’s statement

This drew the attention of fans on X, who slammed him for his opinions. One of the fans wrote:

    “Always being unnecessarily annoying.”

Sharing a deep analysis of Nadal’s opinions, another follower commented:

“Uncle Toni have a history of scolding anyone who is more talented than Rapha. Just remember his attacks on Kyrgios, and always giving Djokovic more cred than Federer etc. He knows Zverev lacks true talent, therefore he is “safe” and can be praised.”

One of the users on X taking a jab at Nadal’s uncle wrote:

“Why does Toni always have to go and say some dumb shit.”

Supporting Wawrinka, one of the fans commented:

“No way is he better than the Wawrinka that beat Djokovic to win RG He beat Roger along the way to winning that title too I believe that Wawrinka beat Nadal to win the AO too.”

Along similar lines, another fan chimed in:

“BAHHAHAHAH he almost lost to Cobolli. Oh Toni.”

Alexander Zverev made his feelings known about winning his first-ever Grand Slam victory

After battling a head-to-head showdown with Flavio Cobolli in the French Open finals and lifting the trophy, Alexander Zverev addressed the media, where he made his feelings known about winning his first-ever Grand Slam win. Revealing that he was ecstatic with his win, he called it a ‘special’ feeling.

Highlighting that he did face difficulties on the court before winning the title, he said:

“Very happy. Uh super happy to be holding this trophy. Um it’s one of the most special feelings in the world. And I just couldn’t be happier to finally be a Grand Slam champion. I mean, I love this court. I love this stadium. But I did have a lot of difficult moments on it. So, to finally be able to crown it with having a trophy and holding it, um, is the best feeling in the world. Thank you,” said Alexander Zverev.

Alexander Zverev also reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, where he fell short of advancing to the finals after losing to Carlos Alcaraz.
