Mirra Andreeva has given an honest response when asked whether she would ever consider changing her nationality from Russian to another. The topic has gained attention in recent years, with several of her former compatriots, including Daria Kasatkina, opting to represent other countries.
Andreeva is currently competing at the Australian Open in Melbourne as the eighth seed. She began her campaign with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Donna Vekic, before backing it up with a dominant 6-0, 6-4 victory against former world No. 3 Maria Sakkari in the second round.
Following her win over Sakkari, the Russian spoke about the aforementioned issue in her press conference. She explained that the thought of changing her nationality has never crossed her mind and added that she has not received any such offers, saying she plans to continue competing the way she always has.
“I haven’t even thought about it,” Mirra Andreeva said. “I’ve heard and seen it lately, especially about Kasatkina and how she changed her citizenship. Many players have switched, but I’m going to keep playing as I am, I haven’t had any offers or anything like that, so for now, I’ll continue as is. It doesn’t bring any extra pressure for me; I’m just doing my thing on the court. I focus on how to improve and be a better tennis player.”
Several players have changed their Russian nationality apart from Kasatkina. The list includes Anastasia Potapova, Polina Kudermetova, Alexander Shevchenko, Varvara Gracheva, and others.

Andreeva told the press:
“I feel that I gained some confidence in Adelaide, especially after winning the tournament and arriving in Melbourne with a lot of matches.
