Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, has always been one of his biggest supporters, and today was no different. She quickly shared her reaction to his first-round win at the 2026 Australian Open just minutes after the match.
Shelton is chasing his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne this year and also carries some of the responsibility of leading American men’s tennis. His campaign got underway on Tuesday, January 20, when he faced Frenchman Ugo Humbert at Rod Laver Arena.
The American beat Humbert, who reached the final of the Adelaide International last week, 6-3, 7-6(2), 7-6(5), to notch another strong win Down Under. He fired 15 aces and won 78 percent of points behind his first serve (56 of 72), according to Infosys Stats, sealing a two-hour and 37-minute victory.
Moments after the match ended, Trinity Rodman took to her Instagram Stories to share her reaction, having stayed up late to watch her boyfriend play. Shelton later reposted the story on his own account, adding a heart emoji.

Rodman has been a regular presence in Shelton’s player box at major tournaments since the couple made their relationship public in March last year. This time, however, she was unable to travel to Australia due to her commitments with her soccer team, the Washington Spirit.
Ben Shelton To Face Either Gael Monfils Or Dane Sweeny in Australian Open 2026 2R
Ben Shelton made a solid start to his 2026 Australian Open campaign and will be looking to build on that momentum. However, his next challenge could be a tricky one, with either veteran Gaël Monfils or home favorite Dane Sweeny waiting in the next round.
From a tennis standpoint, Shelton said he is feeling good, admitting as much during his on-court interview after the win over Humbert. He added that he hopes to keep improving as the tournament goes on, confident heading into the later rounds.
“I thought I stayed really calm today,” the American said. “Obviously, I knew coming in a court like this, anywhere, playing Ugo first round is a tough draw, but for me it was just focusing on the things I have been doing, focusing on the areas that I have been trying to improve and just try to get better as the match went on. I felt like I found some of my better tennis later in the match and that’s all you can hope for. I am looking forward to trying to continue this form and make it better and better throughout the tournament.”
The matchup is scheduled for Thursday, January 22. If Ben Shelton gets through, he will move closer to the title, though the road ahead remains difficult with players like Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Jannik Sinner still in the draw.
