Fans took a swipe at Ben Shelton for mentioning a strikingly wrong detail about Jannik Sinner. The young American tennis player last made his competitive appearance at the 2026 Miami Open.
Shelton was bested by fellow American Learner Tien in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters. He then concluded his run in his hometown after an early exit in the first round in Miami.
The 23-year-old suffered a 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 6-3 defeat to unseeded Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko on March 21. Following this, he shared a few moments from his run at the Sunshine Double.
In his YouTube vlog, the young American star was seen spending time with the World No.2 off the court. In the video, as Sinner appeared on the screen, his name was mentioned, but only with wrong spelling.
The misspelling was easily noticeable by fans, which didn’t go over well with them. One of the fans expressed their annoyance with the frequent mistake made while mentioning the Italian star.
“Maybe that’s because I’m Polish and to me “jannik” sounds more natural than “jannick” but so many of them have a problem with spelling his name and it gives me an ick brother you see it everywhere you go,” a fan wrote.
Another fan suggested the mistake was made by a media person who probably isn’t familiar with the sport.

Federer won the Sunshine Double in 2005, 2006, and 2017.
