Top seed Emma Raducanu will square off against home hope Taylah Preston in the quarterfinals of the Hobart International 2026 on Thursday, January 15. The Brit beat Camila Osorio 6-3, 7-6 (2) in the first round, and then received a walkover from Magdalena Frech.
Preston upset fifth seed Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the opening round, and followed it up with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Rebecca Sramkova. She has now advanced to her maiden quarterfinal at the WTA level.

This will be the first career meeting between them. Raducanu enjoyed a decent level of success in 2025. She progressed to her maiden WTA 1000 quarterfinal in Miami, and reached the semifinals of the Citi DC Open as well. She ultimately finished the year ranked within the top 30 and with a 28-22 record.
Before arriving in Hobart, Raducanu represented Great Britain in the United Cup. She lost her only singles match against Maria Sakkari in three sets. After starting the new season on a losing note, Raducanu nabbed her first win of 2026 by beating Osorio. Despite the weather delays and windy conditions, she managed to execute her game plan perfectly.
Preston, ranked No. 204, tallied back-to-back main draw wins at the WTA level for the first time in her career to reach the quarterfinals, also another first for her on the main tour. Her win over Bouzas Maneiro was her first against a top 40 player. She will now aim to score her very first win against a top 30 player.
Raducanu has a 8-4 career record against players ranked outside the top 200, with her most recent loss coming to Zhu Lin at the Ningbo Open 2025. Given the massive disparity in their ranking, experience, and achievements, the Brit will be the massive favorite to win this contest.
