Carlos Alcaraz’s former coach, Juan Ferrero, has recently revealed a shocking interest in coaching Jannik Sinner after the latter’s French Open upset. This development has shocked the fans, and they have dropped their honest opinions on the same online.
Alcaraz and Ferrero’s partnership of seven years came to an end just ahead of the 2026 tennis season in December. They started working together when the Spaniard was just 15 years old, and after achieving multiple accolades under Ferrero’s guidance for several successful years, the world No. 2 announced their split on social media.
Months after this unexpected move, Ferrero is once again making headlines for his new offer to coach Sinner. In his recent conversation with Leggo, he revealed his interest in coaching the world No. 1. Stating that a few months ago, he would have said no to coaching the Italian because the split with Alcaraz was ‘too fresh’; however, he is now ready to take up the role.
“What if Cahill retires tomorrow and they ask me to coach Sinner? A few months ago I would have said no, the breakup with Carlos was too fresh. But today I feel stronger. I answer: why not? Sinner loves to work hard and is willing to do anything to remain number one. As an attitude I like, it would be wonderful to train him,” said Carlos Alcaraz’s former coach.
This news took the fans by surprise, and they did not leave a chance to take a dig at the coach. One of the fans on Reddit wrote:
“This guy has completely lost it since Carlos parted ways with him.”
Another follower highlighted how he is stepping on his reputation that he created while coaching Alcaraz, commenting:
“He earned a lot of goodwill with how well he almost raised Carlos to tennis superstardom. Shame about he’s just throwing it all away.”
Mocking Ferrero, another fan penned:
“He sounds like a jealous ex.”
Along similar lines, another user chimed in:
“Seriously he had such a good reputation coming out of the partnership. This is not doing him any favors.”
What did Carlos Alcaraz say about his split with Juan Carlos Ferrero?
In December 2025, during his off-season, Carlos Alcaraz dropped the news of parting ways with his longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. He shared the news on Instagram, where he posted a bunch of pictures with his former coach and penned a heartfelt caption, announcing their split.
Revealing that it was a mutual decision, he expressed gratitude towards the coach and made his feelings known about their partnership.
“It is very difficult for me to write this post. After over seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. Thank you for making my childhood dreams a reality. We started on this road when I was just a boy and for all this time you have been with me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. I have enjoyed every step with you so much,” wrote Carlos Alcaraz.
Highlighting their journey together, he added:
“We have reached the top, and I think that if our sporting paths have to separate it should be from there, from the place we always worked for and aspired to reach. I have so many memories that it would be unfair to choose just one. You made me grow as an athlete, but more importantly as a person. The thing I value the most is that I enjoyed the process. I will never forget the journey we went on together.”
He further wrote that it was time for them to change paths and try new adventures. He further wished him the best and thanked him for everything he learned under him.
