“I’m Shocked” – John McEnroe Admits Serena Williams Faces Huge Comeback Ask at 44 After Two Kids

Serena Williams’ comeback is currently the hottest topic of the tennis world, and John McEnroe stated that she faces a huge comeback ask after having two kids. The American is making a comeback to the sport almost after four years.

Williams was last seen in action at the 2022 US Open, where she fell short of advancing further than the third round. After focusing on her family, different endeavours, and more for almost four years, she is now ready to make a comeback to the tennis court. After speculations of her comeback following her appearance in the ITIA testing pool in October 2025, the curiousity has now come to an end, as she recently announced her comeback to the sport on social media.

Taking to her Instagram, she shared a video with Nike of her on a tennis court, confirming her return to tennis. She will be making her first appearance at the HSBC Championships doubles tournament alongside Victoria Mboko. Amid this, John McEnroe recently shared his feelings on the American’s comeback after having two kids during his conversation with TNT Sports. Stating that he was semi-shocked with the announcement, he said:

“I’m semi-shocked that she’s decided to do this at her age after having two kids and what she’s accomplished. I know that she didn’t win a major after she had her first kid, and I know that that was something that she wanted to prove she could do, and so I’m assuming she was slightly disappointed in not doing that. But having said that, she’s, when’s her last match, like 4 or 5 years ago.  So, that’s a big ask even for Serena, but it’s awesome for tennis, let’s be real, she’s the GOAT. Well, it’s just so great to have such a big name involved in the grass court season,” said McEnroe.

Serena Williams made her feelings known about making her comeback to tennis at the HSBC Championships

After announcing her return to tennis, Serena Williams sat for a conversation with the officials of the HSBC Championships, where she weighed in on choosing Queen’s Club as the tournament for her comeback. All set to compete in her first match in almost four years, she said that this WTA 500 tournament feels like the ‘perfect place’ to restart her tennis career.

“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter. Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages,” said Serena Williams.

Just before her comeback while rumours were making rounds of her appearance at the Queen’s Club doubles championships alongside Victoria Mboko, the latter was asked about the comeback during her French Open press conference. Responding to this, she said:

“Yeah, I’m very happy. Serena ‌and I have stayed in touch, which is really nice, because I really look up to her. The fact that she even knows me is very exciting. “I feel like if she’s ready to come back on her own terms, then I feel like it’s up to her to announce that, but other than that, I don’t really have much to say. I think the moment is all up to her, and ‌when she’s ready to come back,” said Mboko.
