Coco Gauff’s ex-Coach Gives His Blunt Take on Whether Warriors Should Acquire Ja Morant This Summer

The NBA trade rumors and personal opinions have reached the world of tennis, as Coco Gauff’s former coach-turned-analyst, Brad Gilbert, gave his blunt take on whether the Golden State Warriors should trade for Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant. Gilbert’s opinion came in response to a question from a Bay Area sports station on X.

Morant had been a hot topic during the trade window, with many teams linked to him. The Bucks and the Warriors emerged as his top two landing spots, but nothing has come to fruition yet. Fans and sports analysts are sharing their hot takes and personal opinions on the potential trade, and Gilbert did the same.

“Negative zero would be a horrible fit with Steph and his contract beyond ouch, not to mention injury-prone,” Gilbert wrote on X. His statement reflects the injuries Morant has sustained in recent years, limiting his playing time on the court and the hefty salary that would come with acquiring the star.

Earlier this month, top NBA analyst Brian Windhorst associated Morant with a negative connotation in the league due to being injury-prone, having a hefty salary, having limited playing time, and having off-court issues. In an ideal world, no team would be willing to trade for Morant if the Grizzlies don’t include some future draft picks in the deal.

In tennis, Gauff is facing criticism for her lack of form and recent serving woes. The defending Roland Garros champion has had a disappointing start to her 2026 season, losing in the QF at the Australian Open and then failing to contend for a WTA event title on the Middle East swing.

Former ATP Pro Questions Coco Gauff’s Training Amid Lackluster Run

Former ATP pro and two-time Grand Slam champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov aired some stern questions regarding Gauff’s training routine amid her woeful run at tournaments in 2026 in the latest episode of the Hard Court podcast.

“It’s a mystery to me how someone with such experience can make such mistakes. I have a question right away: How is the training structured? I’m committed to the fact that I’m absolutely certain that quantity turns into quality. If you serve, roughly speaking, 1,000 serves, you’ll fine-tune it,” Kafelnikov said.

Gauff will aim to hopefully get back to winning ways when she plays at the Indian Open (WTA 1000), starting March 2.
