Coco Gauff is currently participating in the Australian Open’s one-point slam, which pits professionals against amateurs for a winner-takes-all one-point game. This is the inaugural edition of the event at Melbourne Park, where the amateurs get two serves while the pros get only one. The prize money for the event is set at $1 million AUD.
Some of the biggest names in men’s and women’s tennis are taking part in the tournament before the main draw of the Australian Open starts on January 18. On Tuesday, Gauff was in attendance to watch the game between tennis influencer Eliza Wastcoat and No. 117 seed Joanna Garland. Earlier, Gauff had praised the influencer’s outfit for the event.
Despite playing an incredible point, Wastcoat lost the contest but was still in high spirits as she approached the net to congratulate Garland and give a short on-court interview.
The presenter asked Wastcoat how she felt about being praised by Gauff for her outfit and being well-prepared for the tournament, despite the loss.
“It’s an honor. She is one of the best,” said the influencer while looking at Gauff in the stands, who stood up and appreciated the kind words. Later, Wastcoat shared the video of her one-point slam match on social media, with the caption, “A respectable L, but at least @cocogauff liked my outfit.”
