“Annoying” Carlos Alcaraz & Roger Federer Trait That Gets Andy Roddick’s Grudging Approval

Carlos Alcaraz has cruised through the first two rounds of the 2026 Australian Open. He defeated Yannick Hanfmann in the second round on Wednesday, January 21. The Spaniard maintained composure, winning 69% of his first-serve points, hitting 41 winners, claiming 113 total points, and breaking the German’s serve four times.
Alcaraz reflected on the match during his on-court interview. The presenter asked for the World No. 1’s opinion on Roger Federer’s golf game. The Spaniard said Federer’s swing looked as effortless as his tennis strokes.
The Swiss legend has spent over a week in Melbourne and started the Australian Open with a star-studded opening ceremony. Meanwhile, Alcaraz found time between matches and training to play golf with Federer, both on the greens and in a simulator.
Adding to the discussion about the two stars’ golfing prowess, former US Open champion Andy Roddick gave his take during the latest episode of his “Served” podcast.
“Both Carlos and Roger. I’ve played a bunch of golf with Roger. I’ve been on a golf trip with him last year. And when Carlos was here, uh, we were at the in-town golf club, which is like a simulator,” Roddick said.
“It’s so annoying how good their golf swings are. It’s so annoying. Like, it’s really annoying that they’re just good at everything. It’s so annoying. I watched Roger play like his 20th green grass round of golf last year and shot like 78,” he added.
Alcaraz has been playing golf for more than five years now. In contrast, the Swiss legend only picked up a golf club after retiring from tennis and has been playing the sport with great interest for the past two years.

What Did Carlos Alcaraz Have to Say About Roger Federer’s Golf Game?

After his win against Hanfmann, Alcaraz seemed excited to respond to the question on the Swiss legend’s golf game.

“It’s as beautiful as the tennis! I’m not surprised. It’s unbelievable. Everything he does, he does in style, really beautiful. On the golf course, it’s a really beautiful swing,” the Spaniard said.

“I think he’s been playing for two years now, and his level is really, really good for two years. I’ve been playing five, and he’s already beating me! It hurts, yeah,” he added.

The World No. 1 will be aiming to complete a career Grand Slam by winning his first title in Melbourne. He has been strong through the first two rounds. Next, Alcaraz will take on Corentin Moutet in the third round at the Rod Laver Arena on Friday.
