Ben Shelton is set to begin his 2026 season in Auckland, with his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, offering words of encouragement ahead of his opener.
The American tennis star shared a video on Instagram earlier today, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at his pre-season training in Auckland.
“I was working hard every day in the offseason, and I didn’t take any time off just to try and get closer and closer to where I want to be,” Shelton was quoted as saying in the video.
Trinity was among the first to comment on the post, cheering him on and offering her support as he prepares to start his campaign.
“Yupppp😍😍,” Rodman commented on the post.

Trinity, an American professional soccer player who plays for the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League and the United States national team, has regularly been spotted cheering Shelton on. She was present at several tournaments, including the US Open and Wimbledon.
Trinity also celebrated Shelton’s maiden ATP Masters 1000 title in Montreal last year with an emotional message.
“Guys serving for the match, first Masters 1000. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh,“ Trinity said. “I watch you everyday work your ass off. I see everyone who doubts you. You are so inspirational and I’ve never been filled with this much joy I love you and you are HIM. Onto the next babe.”
Shelton has likewise shown his support for Trinity in the past, often attending her matches, including appearances at Washington Spirit games in the NWSL.
Ben Shelton to Take on Francisco Comesana in Auckland Opener
Top seed Ben Shelton will begin his Auckland campaign against Argentina’s Francisco Comesana in the second round on Wednesday, January 14, after receiving a first-round bye.
Shelton ended last season with a 40–24 win–loss record, highlighted by his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title in Montreal, where he defeated Karen Khachanov in a three-set final.
Comesana, meanwhile, finished last year with a 19–23 record, with his standout result being a semifinal appearance in Rio de Janeiro. He began his 2026 season in Hong Kong last week, where he exited in the opening round.
The two players have never met on the ATP Tour. Given Shelton’s superior hard-court record and greater experience at this level, he enters the matchup as the clear favourite to advance.
