Ben Shelton’s girlfriend Trinity Rodman is pleased with his first win of the 2026 season, currently underway at the ASB Classic in Auckland. The win came on Wednesday against Francisco Comesana, a straight-sets win for the American.
Shelton is in action for the first time this week since the ATP Finals last year, where he exited in the group stage. The American skipped the United Cup last week and did not play any tournaments, choosing instead of start his year in New Zealand after a long practice stint. Rodman is also in Auckland with the World No. 8, joining him for the trip Down Under.
In his first match in Auckland, the top seed had it easy, winning 7-5, 6-4 to begin the season on a bang. Taking to Instagram later, Trinity Rodman shared her first reaction to her boyfriend’s win, putting a Story up.
“I’ve missed this,” Trinity Rodman wrote.
Up next, Shelton will take on Sebastian Baez, the No. 7 seed, in the quarterfinals. The American was in line to meet second seed Casper Ruud in the final, but the Norwegian crashed out against Fabian Marozsan today in an upset loss. The next highest-ranked player left in the draw is No. 3 seed Jakub Mensik, whom Shelton could face in the final.
Ben Shelton will be in action at Australian Open next after Auckland
Following his stint at the ASB Classic in Auckland, Ben Shelton will travel to Melbourne for the 2026 Australian Open, where he will be joined by the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev.
Shelton has a lot to prove in Melbourne this year, having made his best-ever result at the tournament last year. He reached the semifinal at the Australian Open in 2025 before losing to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
Shelton’s best result at a Grand Slam has also come at the Australian Open with the semifinal run, equaling what he did at the US Open in 2023. This time around, the American will be seeded No. 8 — the highest seeded player from the USA in the men’s singles draw.
