Emma Raducanu will take on the unseeded Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the first round of the Australian Open 2026 on Sunday, January 18.
The Brit competed at the Australian Open last year; however, she lost 6-1, 6-0 to Iga Swiatek in the third round. On the other hand, Sawangkaew will be making her Grand Slam main draw debut in Australia.
The hardcourt tournament is scheduled to be held from January 18 to February 1 at Melbourne Park. Let’s have a look at their showdown at the first Major of the 2026 season.
Emma Raducanu vs Mananchaya Sawangkaew Head-to-Head & Matchup Keys
Raducanu and Sawangkaew will be meeting for the first time in Australia at the Margaret Court Arena.
Raducanu enters the season on the back of a 28-22 record in 2025, highlighted by her strong performance against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon. She drew attention with a tight contest, which she eventually lost 7-6(6), 6-4.
She secured her first US Open match win since winning the title in 2021, as she defeated Ena Shibahara in the first round. She also advanced to the Miami Open quarterfinals and the Citi Open semifinals.
Sawangkaew, meanwhile, finished her season 17-15, highlighted by her first WTA 125 final appearance at the Mumbai Open. She eventually fell to Jil Teichmann. Sawangkaew also earned a silver medal in women’s singles at the Southeast Asian Games 2025.
Raducanu boasts a stronger hardcourt profile, holding a 16-15 career record, compared to Sawangkaew’s 7-5.

Raducanu’s 2026 hardcourt tune-up offered a mix of resilience and rust ahead of the Australian Open. She withdrew from her first match at the United Cup against Naomi Osaka, citing a foot injury. After returning, she lost to Greece’s Maria Sakkari in three sets. This displays evidence of competitive intensity but also highlights the sharpness issues.
Raducanu continued her season at the Hobart International, where she earned her first hardcourt win of the season over Camilo Osorio. After showing signs of aggression and point construction, she advanced to the quarterfinals, where she lost to wildcard Taylah Preston in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Sawangkaew will be entering the Australian Open with confidence. She launched her season strongly, winning her biggest title so far at the W75 Nonthaburi. The 23-year-old prevailed over Lisa Pigato in straight sets to claim the title. She is aiming to build further momentum at the upcoming Grand Slam.
This first round promises a thrilling showdown as Raducanu’s exceptional resilience and skills meet Sawangkaew’s powerful play. The Brit enters as the heavy favorite to advance, considering her superior hardcourt record.
