LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin faced tampering allegations by fans after Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ latest admission that he almost considered following the head coach from Oxford to Baton Rouge.
Chambliss, who was the biggest turnaround story in 2025, was interviewed by On3’s Chris Low, where he admits to the LSU consideration with Kiffin taking the position there after the end of the regular season. He also mentioned why he stayed with Ole Miss despite.
“I mean, there were discussions. There were thoughts,” Chambliss said. “I’m not going to lie about that because you have to understand what my circumstance was. I had just transferred here.
“My offensive coordinator was Coach Weis. I had just learned that system. He was leaving, and they were taking most of the offensive guys. I didn’t know who was going to be our head coach at the time. I didn’t know who was going to be the OC. There were just a lot of unknowns and question marks. So, yes, those thoughts were there, but once we went with PG (Golding), it didn’t take me too long to decide. I was all Ole Miss.”
After hearing this, fans were quick to jump to the conclusion that Kiffin might have tampered with a college player on his way to Baton Rouge. It is an NCAA violation if Kiffin had asked Chambliss to follow him to LSU because the transfer portal was still not open.
“tampering?!?!” one fan asked.
“Discussions”??? Yeah…. My thoughts exactly,” another suspected.
“Is it tampering if your head coach is recruiting you with you to a different school?” another asked.
“Huh interesting how the transfer portal wasn’t open,” one fan wrote.
“Are you saying he was tampered with?” one fan asked.
“Probably.. but like the Clemson linebacker ole Miss got, nothing will happen,” one fan wrote.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss Shares His Feelings For Lane Kiffin Upon LSU Departure
Lane Kiffin led Ole Miss to an 11-1 record in the regular season, with a good chance to be selected for the College Football Playoff. However, at the end of final regular season game against Mississippi State, Kiffin announced that he was leaving Ole Miss to become the new head coach of LSU.
In his announcement, he also mentioned that while he wanted to stay with the Rebels for the postseason, athletic director Keith Carter denied him that opportunity.
Like many players, Trinidad Chambliss was upset with this decision of Kiffin as the head coach left the program at the worst possible time.
“Yeah, it was definitely a weird process, him leaving right when we were getting a chance to play for everything we had worked for, and also just because me coming from Ferris State, our coach was there for the longest and he will retire there,” Chambliss said. “I guess I wasn’t used to something like that and used to that situation and how he handled it.”
However, he has no hard feelings against Kiffin, adding:
“No hate or any less love for Coach Kiffin. He gave me a great opportunity to come here and play football, and I’m truly grateful for that.”
Chambliss will now look to take Ole Miss back into the College Football Playoff and complete his dream of winning a Division I national championship.
