Former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark has reacted to a comment attributed to him on Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza. On Sunday, Feb. 22, Clark shared a post by @AdamFerrellNFL on X/Twitter to clear the air after he received backlash for a statement that he did not make, according to him.
A parody NFL account had quoted Clark offering his thoughts on Mendoza not throwing in this year’s NFL combine, saying:
“Well, we saw what happened when a black man did that last year. Let’s see what happens when a white man does it.”
Clark denied making any such comment, as he wrote:
“Bro!! It’s crazy that folks can just make things up. This is so dang fake and false!! Just want to piss people off I see and lessen someone’s voice! I did not say this!! Also Mendoza isn’t… NEVER MIND! Is this dude a real human? Adam Ferrell can’t be a real person just lying.”
As it stands, though, it was previously reported that Mendoza will actually not be throwing in the 2026 NFL Combine, scheduled from February 23 to March 2. Instead, it is said that he will throw at Indiana’s pro day on April 1 in front of multiple pass catchers. Mendoza is projected to be the top pick in this year’s draft. He led coach Curt Cignetti’s squad to the 2025-26 CFP national title.

In another post by Ryan Clark on X/Twitter, he responded to a user who was poking fun at the fact that the player-turned-analyst was baited by the false social media report.
Clark responded by claiming he was not baited and that he had to speak out since he was receiving a lot of direct messages, questions, and call-outs for the controversial statement.
