Ravi Bellamkonda has become the 18th president of the Ohio State University. He was appointed by the university’s Board of Trustees on March 12, 2026. Bellamkonda succeeds Ted Carter, who was announced as the 17th president in August 2023.
Carter’s tenure began on 1 January 2024, and he resigned from his position on 9 March 2026. Carter is widely credited for shaping the direction of Ohio State athletics during his tenure. Now, Bellamkonda will take over the duties.
Bellamkonda was the executive vice president and provost at the Ohio State University. The university didn’t search for a new president or even appoint an interim president after Carter’s resignation.
Bellamkonda played a major role in advancing Ohio State’s leadership in artificial intelligence. The university launched several initiatives focused on enhancing the AI infrastructure under Bellamkonda’s leadership.
“Bellamkonda, who trained as a bioengineer and neuroscientist through a PhD at Brown University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, joined Ohio State in January 2025 to serve as executive vice president and provost. As chief academic officer, he oversaw the university’s core academic enterprise, which includes 15 colleges, four regional campuses, and more than 8,800 faculty,” as per Ohio State University’s website.
Before he joined Ohio State, Bellamkonda was the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University. He is married to Dr. Lalita Kaligotl, and they are proud parents of their two kids.
Ravi Bellamkonda on Pursuing Excellence in All Fields
Bellamkonda addressed the crowd gathered at the Longaberger Alumni House at Ohio State. He told them to always pursue greatness and not limit themselves to just one field. He wants Ohio State students to be great at academics, research, athletics, and more.
He believes that the best scholars in the world are in those classrooms, teaching students, and helping shape the future of the next generation. Bellamkonda believes that Ohio State students possess the power to change the world.
“It matters because the best scholars in the world are in our classrooms teaching our undergraduate, graduate and professional students. It matters, because our entrepreneurial mindset and relentless pursuit of excellence has the power to transform the world starting right here in Ohio,” Bellamkonda said.
Bellamkonda has only been at Ohio State for around 400 days. Even though he is aware of the legacy and principles of the university, there’s still a lot that he has to learn, and Bellamkonda is committed to doing that.
