New Penn State head coach Matt Campbell earned one of his biggest coaching wins in his career when he landed three-star wide receiver Jamir Dean earlier this week. However, it seems that he cannot rest easy yet, as another team may be trying to recruit him away from the Nittany Lions. This comes as reports indicate that Georgia may have given him a new offer after his verbal commitment to Penn State.
Dean had been very vocal about his excitement in playing in Happy Valley, but he also admitted that the possibility in playing in Athens is intriguing him as well.
“What excites me about Georgia is the standard they play at every year,” he said. “They compete for championships, develop players at a high level, and send a lot of guys to the league,” Dean told Rivals. “I also like the energy and passion from the coaching staff and how they make relationships with their players a priority. I feel like it could be a great fit because of the culture, development, and the way they use their athletes in the system.”
Dean will still have his senior year of high school ahead of him, catching 34 passes for 590 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior last season. He has admitted that he will still be doing official visits even after his Penn State commitment, and revealed that he plans to go on an official one to Georgia in the near future.
Race For Jamir Dean May Be Down To Penn State and Georgia
Jamir Dean is the biggest commitment for Penn State from the Class of 2027 so far, and he chose the Nittany Lions over Arkansas, Purdue, and Wisconsin. However, as the Georgia Bulldogs have shown, the race to get him is not over yet. He revealed that he is very much interested in Penn State, but admitted that it is still to early to tell where he would ultimately go.
“It’s still early in the process, so I’m just focused on continuing relationships and learning more about every program,” he said.
For now, it seems that it is a two-horse race between Georgia and Penn State. However, there is still a chance that Arkansas, Purdue and Wisconsin could all still step up their game and flip him.
