Sprinting star Noah Lyles has made history after creating a new 150m world best at the Ostrava Golden Spike 2026 event. The track star ran a time of 14.67 seconds, leaving behind Dambile of South Africa and Gout Gout of Australia. Despite the epic, record-setting victory, some fans have expressed mixed to negative reactions online, arguing that the 150m race is a rare event and the records set here are not as prestigious as those set in official events such as the Olympics.
The Czech city of Ostrava hosted the 65th edition of the Golden Spike meet, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, where elite runners showcased their sprinting prowess and created history. Among the standouts was Noah Lyles, whose name has been buzzing since setting the new world best in 150m.
With the new record, Lyles has now officially surpassed the 14.92 seconds set by Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson at the Miramar Invitational in April. While celebrations are roaring, some fans have reflected on the legitimacy of this record since the 150m race is not an official Olympic or World Championship event. Many have also suggested that the record set should not carry the same significance as the ones set in official events.

“Yeah yeah… where was this? When did 150m races start? What was the tailwind? Whats the altitude? Were the shoes legal? Was he tested before this? Any administrative errors??”
Someone wrote:
“Sir with all due respect, this is a double standard based on your take of “world champs” with NBA and NFL. You can’t have a world record in an event that’s not an official world or Olympics distance. With all due respect of course! This is a made up event and thus a made up WR!”
One user reacted by saying:
“150 is quite an unorthodox event.”

“Spin the block on the 300m 🤭🤭”
Lyles has been at loggerheads with Gout Gout for a while. The Aussie sensation finished third with 14.96 seconds, and it remains to be seen if the rising talent could eventually close the gap on the reigning champion in the coming events.
Noah Lyles Talks About the Reason Behind Choosing the 150m Race
Before his dominating record-setting win, Lyles, alongside Gout Gout, sat down for an exclusive conversation with Zlatá tretra Ostrava, where the Olympic champion opened up about prioritizing speed over endurance that got him to set his eyes on the 150 m race:
“We were debating, my coach and I, if I was gonna do 150 or 300, basically flipping a coin for what I needed for my season. This year we decided to focus more on speed, so we decided the 300 was just not for this year and 150 was a better medium point,” he said (3:43).
Lyles also added that he often uses the 150m sprint as a high-intensity training tool and has managed to clock some incredibly fast times during those sessions.
