Simone Biles recently shared glimpses of traveling to Belize with her husband, Jonathan Owens, days after a major health scare. She also shared a video of her getting ready for the trip and opening up about her connection with Belize.
Biles, who has been away from competitive gymnastics since the 2024 Paris Olympics, is enjoying her time away from the mat with her family. She is currently having the time of her life with her husband days after experiencing a health scare in early June. She shared an update on social media about having a near-death experience; however, she did not disclose what actually happened to her.
Days after this heartbreaking update, she recently shared a video of getting ready for the vacation, where she revealed that she holds dual citizenship in the United States and Belize. She acquired Belizean citizenship through her mother’s roots. From packing to getting dressed to boarding the flight, she offered glimpses of it all in her video. Calling the place her ‘favorite vacation spot’ in the world, she said:
“We are going to my favourite vacation spot in the whole entire world today, which is Belize. My mom and her whole entire family were born and raised in Belize, and so, me and my siblings actually have dual citizenship. Growing up, we used to go to Key Cocker all the time and it was so long ago that the island didn’t even have fresh water for the sink or the shower. We showered with the salt water,” said Simone Biles in her video.
In addition to this, she also posted a bunch of Instagram stories. In the first one, she posted an adorable selfie with Owens. Here is the snapshot of the same:

In her second story, she turned heads with her selfie in a black bikini.

Along with these updates, she also shared pictures of the view of the location, the setting of their couples massage, and more.
What did Simone Biles say about her health scare on social media?
In early June 2026, Simone Biles shared a picture of her wrist enclosed in three hospital identification bands. She shared the news of being hospitalized, revealing that she had a near-death experience. However, she didn’t reveal what the medical emergency was about and described it as one of the ‘scariest’ experiences of her life.
Opening up about the health scare, she wrote:
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week❤️🩹 This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices. I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers 🤍🤍🤍 loooovveeee y’all,” wrote Simone Biles.
Although Simone Biles has not been on the mat for almost two years, she has not ruled out returning to compete at the 2028 LA Olympics. She is reportedly just on an extended mental and physical break.
