Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe created history Sunday during the London Marathon when he set the men’s world record for running the fastest marathon and did it under two hours.
Sawe’s sub-two-hour performance whipped the entire track & community into a frenzy, who are just not in awe of his record-shattering run but are also trying to decode the shoe brand that powered his run.
The 2026 TCS London Marathon saw an electrifying track day, packed with high-voltage action from every elite runner who came in. The race was defined by blistering splits, but it was the footwear worn by the winners that became the ultimate tiebreaker.
As the 26.2-mile run took a toll on many, Sabastian Sawe set his eyes on creating a 2-hour minimal record, which got fuelled by a synergy of his elite lungs and redefining footwear equipment.
For this winning marathon, Sawe wore the weighted Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 supershoe, weighing just 100 grams, which is considered the next-gen supershoe and is currently available as an elite piece in the market.
According to Adidas, this specific shoe is the lightest one to ever hit the market and is designed solely for runners who have record-breaking desires in their minds.
The technical designs that went into the making included a redesigned carbon and a Lightstrike Pro Evo foam that makes it easy for runners to generate explosive power while maintaining enough energy needed for long-distance runs.
Many analysts took to their social media and highlighted how rival Nike had spent millions on previous unofficial race records and barely made the record, but here in the official TCS Marathon, two elite runners did the impossible sub-2 record wearing Adidas.
This signals how the sports footwear giants are still at it, but currently, Adidas seems to have the upper hand of record-breaking supremacy.
Sabastian Sawe Talks About the Impact of the Sub-2 Win
Sabastian Sawe created history at the 2026 London Marathon by not only finishing first but also doing it under two hours (1:59:30), which has redefined the capabilities of human endurance.
During the post-run interview, Sawe spoke about how much it means to carry this record back home in Kenya and how this milestone is a shared victory for the entire running community.
“It means a lot to me, my family, and also to my country. I think it assures that my country produced big talents and now they’re gearing for what results have come today, and they’re happy,” he said.
With the newly created post-sub-2 era, Sawe is likely to target the upcoming marathons, part of the World Marathon Major, specifically the Chicago run, which is notorious for producing record-breaking feats.
