Athletes to watch at the Shanghai Diamond League 2026?

    1. Mondo Duplantis

Mondo Duplantis is one of the premier headliners at the Shanghai Diamond League 2026, as he is entering the tournament in his peak form. His every appearance on the mat carries the anticipation of a new pole vault world record. He recently secured his 15th world record in March 2026 at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala, Sweden. He registered 6.31 meters to achieve the milestone.

Currently, he has been undefeated in 39 consecutive competitions, and recently, he also became the first man to win four consecutive world indoor pole vault titles on March 21, 2026, at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. His fans are on their toes to witness his exceptional performance in Shanghai once again, and one of his arch rivals at the tournament will be Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis.

    2. Sha’Carri Richardson

Sha’Carri Richardson’s fans are eagerly waiting to witness a major comeback in her highly anticipated 2026 outdoor Diamond League debut. She will be opening her international campaign in the 200m rather than her signature 100m event. She recently opened her season at the Stawell Gift in Australia, where she delivered a historic performance in the 120m handicap race.

She stood atop the podium after clocking 13.15 seconds, becoming only the third woman to win from scratch and setting a new record at the event. The Olympic star is aiming to bring the same energy to the Shanghai Diamond League, where she will go head-to-head with the Jamaican athlete, Shericka Jackson, who holds the second-fastest 200m time in history.

    3. Letsile Tebogo

The reigning Olympic 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo, will compete in the men’s 100m dash rather than his traditional 200m dash. While he is famous for his historic Olympic 200m gold medal, he holds a notable 100m personal best of 9.86 seconds.

He is coming off fresh from his victory at the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, where he anchored the Botswana 4x100m team to an impressive national record of 37.96 seconds to finish second behind the USA, securing their spot for the 2027 World Championships. He will be lining up directly against his American rivals, including Kenny Bednarek and Trayvon Bromell. Along with them, he will also face South-African record holder Akani Simbine and Ferdinand Omanyala.

    4. Masai Russell

As the reigning 2024 Olympic gold medalist in the 100m hurdles, Masai Russell enters every major race as the premier target. She recently secured a world-leading time of 12.40 seconds in the 100m hurdles at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington in May 2026.

She also currently holds the second-fastest 100m hurdles time in history after recording 12.17s at the Grand Slam Track in Miami in 2025. At the 2026 Shanghai Diamond League, she will go head-to-head against the reigning world champion Ditaji Kambundji, world-record holder Tobi Amusan, two-time world champion Danielle Williams, and three-time world indoor champion Devynne Charlton.

The 100m hurdles race at Shanghai will be exciting yet nail-biting for the fans.
