Bennett Berge from South Dakota has just been transferred to Oklahoma State after he entered the transfer portal earlier this month. Fellow cowboy wrestler Jax Forrest went all bullish for Berge’s upcoming stint and exhibited immense pride in wishing the former cowboy a great journey onto the mat ahead.
The transfer portal season has begun and is thriving with a list of aspiring and dominating wrestlers, all looking forward to joining a program designed to benefit them the most. At 197 lbs, Berge became the first Cowboy to be added to the portal. This addition has only leveled up David Taylor’s lineup for the upcoming season.
Berge took to his social media, celebrating the entry with a cowboy emoji, alongside a pictorial drawing of the word “cowboy” on his wrestling attire. Fans and fellow athletes, including the Cowboys’ NCAA champion, Jax Forrest, let his thoughts run wild on this revelation.
“let’s go cowboy 🤠,” wrote Forrest.
Fellow athletes and fans took the news with great pride and showered the former jackrabbit with words of encouragement and wished him enormous success.
With a 75-26 career record, Benett Berge holds an impressive all-around mat resume that contains two medals at the U20 Championships, alongside being placed fifth at the Big 12 Championships this season.
Bennett Berge Talks about Having his Brother as a Coach
Bennett Berge made a name for himself even before joining the Cowboys, through his academic and wrestling excellence. During an old interview, Berge, while highlighting all the above, specifically spoke about how much it meant to have his brother, Brady Berge, by his side.
“It’s been nothing but awesome and I’m really lucky and grateful. We really work well together and our relationships always been really well, and so, it’s not like we have any issues, and we wrestle a lot and I work with him all the time, and yeah, his knowledge is off the charts, so there’s no one better to learn from than him,” he said (12:45).
He went on to highlight other aspects of his life that hugely contributed to his success on the mat and consistently credited his peers.
With the latest addition of Berge, OSU has already started the season with a hopeful lineup, and it remains to be seen who comes in or goes out of the portal that would either rock the elite programs or strengthen them further.
