Olympic silver medalist Kennedy Blades has reacted to the backlash she has been getting since the video of her suplexing the Fox News reporter, Abby Hornacek, went viral. She defended the move, saying she used a technique that prevented injury.
On March 28, Blades was speaking to Hornacek during an RAF event, where Hornacek confirmed that Blades would demonstrate her signature suplex. Blades then got into her wrestling stance, grabbed the reporter by the waist, and tossed her backwards, slamming her into the ground.
The video went viral and received mixed reactions, with many expressing concern for the reporter’s health. Blades gave an interview after beating Milana Dudieva during an RAF event and broke the silence on how using the proper technique saved the reporter from injury. She added that she did not expect the incident to blow up as it did.
“I’m sure I did the technique correctly, I just feel a lot of comments were like I hurt her and stuff but like, but there’s technicque to everything right so if I didn’t turn at the end I mean, she would’ve landed on her neck, but um I can’t believe it blew up, it’s everywhere,” she said.
She also highlighted how this virality has actually helped the sport get more attention than it deserves and has vowed to continue doing whatever it takes to make the sport more exciting.
Kennedy Blades is All Game for Fighting Kayla Harrison and Ronda Rousey
Kennedy Blades did not hold herself back when she was asked about a fantasy bout between her and two of the biggest names in MMA: Kayla Harrison and Ronda Rousey. During her RAF post-fight interview, Blades spoke about how fun the crossover would be and highlighted each of their Olympic glories.
“That would be fun, let’s do it. Kayla is an Olympic champion in judo, I’m Olympic silver, and she would be stepping into my world, but throws are basically Greco,” she said.
When asked about Ronda, she said:
“That would be fun too, let’s just grow the sport, I’m ready to take on the challenge, and yeah, let’s do these big names.”
This came after Blades beat the Russian MMA fighter, Milana Dudieva, at the RAF 07 event.
