Riley Gaines recently gave a befitting reply to a troll after the latter called her out for ignoring legendary swimmer Katie Ledecky’s recent feat. The American swimmer recorded the second-fastest 1500 m freestyle time in history at the US Pro Swim Series event in Austin, Texas.
Ledecky clocked an impressive time of 15 min 23.21 sec to dominate the event on Wednesday. Following her notable feat, a fan took a jibe at the conservative sect for not acknowledging the Olympic medalist’s achievement.
There has been plenty of speculation about Ledecky’s gender identity, even though she has never come out as transgender. So, when the fan took a swipe at the conservatives, Gaines had a reply of her own.
“Strange, I haven’t seen any of the many conservative women’s swimming enthusiasts tweeting about this incredible feat of athleticism,” the fan wrote.
Highlighting that the men’s world record of 14:30.67, set by Ledecky’s training partner Bobby Finke, is almost a minute faster than hers, Gaines wrote:
Ledecky holds the world record in the women’s 1500m, which she registered in 2018 after clocking 15:20.48. With Wednesday’s feat, she surpassed her previous second-fastest time of 15:24.51, which she recorded at the Pro Swim Series in Florida last April.
