Jordyn Wieber stepped down from the head coach role of the Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics program, and her husband, Chris Brooks, has replaced her. This development garnered backlash from fans online.
Wieber, who joined the Arkansas Razorbacks as the head coach in 2019, stepped down from the role shortly after the 2026 NCAA Gymnastics Championships. Here, the team finished seventh overall, scoring 196.9625 to place fourth in their semifinal appearance. They capped the season with four athletes earning All-American honours.
Shortly after wrapping up the season, Wieber announced her retirement from the role to focus on her family and other passions.
“Serving as Head Coach of Arkansas Gymnastics has been an honor. I’m deeply grateful to our student-athletes, staff, and Razorback fans for an unforgettable journey. With a heavy, but full heart and immense pride in what we have accomplished, I’m stepping away from athletics to focus on my family and other passions. I’m excited for what’s ahead and will forever be cheering on the Razorbacks,” wrote Jordyn Wieber.
After her retirement, her husband, Brooks, who has served as an assistant coach under her since 2019, has been promoted as the head coach, and this has triggered backlash from the fans. Taking a jab at the development, one of the fans wrote:
“My childhood beef with her aside, focusing on your family when your husband is the one taking your position?????”
Another user on X slammed the reason behind her retirement, writing:
“Focus on family, but her husband is taking her role?🙃”
Trolling the decision of Brooks replacing her after she stepped down for family, another follower commented:
“She is stepping down to focus on family but her husband is taking over the job? Make this make sense.”
Along similar lines, another fan chimed in:
“Me thinks Jordyn had her baby and realized raising children and head coaching simultaneously is too difficult to manage But then it makes me a little sad that Chris is taking the job cause it makes the narrative look like men should take the HC jobs while the wives stay home…”
Jordyn Wieber once made her feelings known about being a mother and coach together
In December 2025, Jordyn Wieber sat for a conversation with Pig Trail Nation, where she reflected on the last season of the Arkansas gymnastics team. She also opened up about stepping into the role of motherhood after giving birth to her daughter, Gigi Renee Brooks, on June 4, 2025.
Opening up about her daughter and calling the transition to being a mother ‘fun,’ she said:
“She’s doing good. She’s 6 months old now. Um she’s the cutest thing in the entire world. Of course, I think that cuz I’m her mom, but it’s just been a really fun transition in life um of kind of pairing being the best coach I can be with being the best mom I can be and figuring out that work life balance. Um, but I feel like we’re doing it really well and I’m excited.”
