American sprinter Noah Lyles has rocked the Rome Diamond League with his crushing 100m victory at the Golden Gala held at the Stadio Olimpico, clocking a season best of 9.88 SB. Lyles executed his post-race signature gesture of calling out his track rivals, this time targeting Gout Gout and fellow American Jordan Anthony, both of whom were reminded of who rules the senior circuit.
The Rome Diamond League saw a thrilling display of action on the tracks that has already set the stage for an even more anticipated outdoor season. The roster for the 100m race had an assembled list of sprinters who had already left behind a mark to cherish. Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon finished second with a time of 9.94s NR, followed by Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo bagging third place (9.95s SB) and indoor star Jordan Anthony in fourth (9.96s).
After reigning supreme, Lyles showered the crowd with his flamboyant take on the event, expressing a desire to go through the 100m battle again. Lyles then shifted focus to two young sprinting sensations who have rocked the track and field world with their recent feats.
From Australia, the 18-year-old Gout Gout created history after winning the 200m race in just 19.67 seconds at the Australian Championships back in April, and has now been ratified by World Athletics as an official record holder of this feat.
Lyles briefly yet strongly sent a message to the Aussie sensation, who is scheduled to face the Olympian at the Ostrava Golden Spike Continental Tour on June 16:
“Gout Gout is about to learn the same lesson Jordan just did,” said Lyles.
Elsewhere, despite finishing at number four, Jordan Anthony has been renowned for his explosive power out of the blocks, something that Lyles focused on as he sent the young sensation a stern message.
“I’m about to go back to practice. I’m gonna let Jordan know that I’m gonna beat him at the blocks. I ain’t never beaten Jordan in the blocks, but you gonna learn after this,” said Lyles.
Lyles further took to his social media and posted a story, writing:
