Eight-time world champion and current 100 m Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles showed his support for the New York Knicks in the ongoing NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. New York leads the series 1-0 after their 105-95 win in Game 1 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Lyles clocked a season-best 9.88 seconds to win the 100 m at the Wanda Diamond League in Rome. Before the race, he embraced the moment, energized the crowd, and beat a star-packed field that included 2020 Olympic gold medalist Marcell Jacobs, indoor 60m world champion Jordan Anthony, Emmanuel Eseme, and Olympic 200 m champion Letsile Tebogo.
After winning the gold, Lyles was approached by media personnel, who, in addition to rehashing his sprint win, asked the American superstar about the ongoing NBA Finals and whom he would be supporting to win the championship this year.
“I am going to be honest, I want the Knicks to win. I would love to see New York go crazy if they win; that would be a sight to behold,” said Lyles.
Noah Lyles Joked ‘I Can Go Again,’ After Sprint Win in Rome
After dominating the field in front of an electric crowd at Stadio Olimpico, Lyles was asked to reflect on his triumph, which he achieved by clocking a season-best time and laying down the gauntlet as other big names were left in the chasing pack.
“I had a great finish. I can go again. Who want’s to go? This season might be different but it doesn’t mean the goal is different. I am not showing anywhere to lose. I am here to win. Ten metres before the finish line I knew the race was over and I had already won it. I was thinking about how I was going to celebrate it,” Lyles said.
Lyles, 28, achieved his season’s first victory in Tokyo two weeks ago with a time of 9.95 seconds.
