Stanford Student and Olympic Icon Eileen Gu Stuns Fans With a Viral Deep Dive Into Neuroplasticity

Eileen Gu is stunning her fans in multiple ways during her 2026 Winter Olympics campaign. After her epic gold medal win, she has now gone viral for her deep discussion about neuroplasticity in a media conversation.

On Sunday, Gu etched her name in history by becoming the first woman to defend her title in the women’s freeski halfpipe. In her final run, she registered a score of 94.75, making her the Olympic champion in the event. On the other two steps of the podium stood her teammate Li Fanghui and Zoe Atkin, respectively.

Following this clutch performance, she sat for a press conference where one of the reporters asked her about how she answers all the questions so comprehensively and asked her to take them through her mindset. Responding to this, the Stanford student dived into a deep conversation about neuroplasticity, revealing how it helps her in keeping her thoughts organised.

Sharing the details of her personality, she said:

“I think overall I’m just a pensive person, like, I’m very introspective. I’m an introspective young woman. I spend a lot of time in my head, and it’s not a bad place to be. I journal a lot, I break down all of my thought processes. I think I apply a very analytical lens to my own thinking and I kind of modify it because it’s so interesting, you can control what you think, like, you can control how you think and therefore you can control who you are and especially as a young person like I’m 22 so with neuroplasticity on my side I can literally become who I want to be,” said Eileen Gu.

    She added:

“How cool is that, like, how empowering is that, right? And so the fact is, I get to become every day the kind of person that me at age eight would revere. I would be obsessed with me today. Yes, I spend a lot of time in my own head, yes, I think a lot, but it’s not really like in an egotistical kind of way, it’s like in a tinkering, like a scientist kind of way.”

Gu recently took a jab at a journalist who asked if she saw her two silver medals as opportunities lost for gold.

Eileen Gu Shared an Emotional Confession About Her Grandmother’s Death

Eileen Gu had a blast at the 2026 Winter Olympics; however, her gold medal win in the halfpipe, which was supposed to be a celebration, quickly turned into a heartbreaking incident, as her grandmother passed away. In the post-ski interview, she broke down in tears while sharing the heartbreaking news. Opening up about her bond with her grandmother, she revealed that she was her inspiration and was a fighter.

“The reason I was late is that I just found out that my grandma passed away, and she was a really big part of my life growing up and someone I looked up to immensely. She was such a strong. She was a fighter, and I think what’s so interesting is that a lot of people just cruise through life, but she was a steamship. Like this woman commanded life, and she grabbed it by the reins, and she made it into what she wanted it to be. And she inspired me so much,” said Eileen Gu.

Along with the gold, Eileen Gi also won two silver medals at the Winter Olympics in the freeski slopestyle and freeski big air events. With these wins, her Olympic medal tally has increased to six medals, and she is now the most decorated freestyle skier in Olympic history.
