Nebraska Volleyball’s coach Dani Busboom Kelly recently opened up about Bergen Reilly’s parents organizing a team dinner and its impact on the team’s culture. The Huskers kicked off their spring season against Iowa State on Saturday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
As the Big Red team competed in Reilly’s hometown, she was welcomed with great enthusiasm by the fans. Also, the team received a special welcome at Reilly’s home. Coach Busboom Kelly reflected on the dinner hosted by the setter’s parents, Brendan and Tiffany.
In the post-match interview, Coach Busboom Kelly opened up about the effect of dinner on the team’s culture and also highlighted the team’s readiness to spend time with a player’s family if any faceoff is held in their hometown.
“Yeah, I think she was really fired up and just appreciative that we were going to do this and her parents like put on a team dinner and it’s always really important to me and to just the culture of our program that when we’re in hometowns if families want to to be able to go to our players houses or spend time with their families, I think that just helps get to know each other way better. So, it was a nice night last night,” she said.
The Huskers dominated their first match, winning 4-0.
Bergen Reilly Made Her Feelings Known About Competing In Front Of Her Family and Friends
Ahead of the faceoff, Bergen Reilly opened up about competing in her hometown, stating that while it is difficult for her friends and family to travel away to watch her compete, returning to her hometown is fun.
“It’s going to be awesome,” Reilly said. “There are a lot of people who have wanted to see me for the last three years and haven’t been able to come down to Lincoln because it’s pretty hard for me to get tickets for people. So, I’m really excited just that so many friends and family get to come and I get to see them, and I have a lot of memories at the Pentagon. So, I feel like that’ll be kind of fun to just go through some of those again.”
Reilly played in the first two sets, recording 17 assists with five digs, two kills, two blocks, and an ace. The Huskers will next lock horns against Creighton on April 17.
